The Deepsea Challenge is about 61mm lug-to-lug, but if you're in the market for a watch that's rated to 11,000 meters, well, you probably don't care – you also don't really have any other choices. The Glidelock and Fliplock on the bracelet make for easy adjustment on the fly – it can stretch to fit over a wetsuit for those looking to use the watch as intended (not something I tested). Oh, and another vintage-inspired detail: The Deepsea Challenge has a matte black dial, giving it a real tool-watch vibe, another feature we don't see on many Rolex watches today. It's one of those finishing details we might take for granted but is executed perfectly, evoking those early Sea-Dwellers where it all began. Perhaps my favorite detail on the case (and something other vintage nerds will certainly love too): The lugs feature polished chamfers, something that's been missing from modern Rolex sports watches until now. The titanium is finished beautifully, matte and brushed on most surfaces of the case and bracelet. Rolex mentioned it's been experimenting with titanium for years, and it shows. But this is the type of watch that'd look better on top of a wetsuit than under a suit anyway. Look at the wrist shots here and it's clear this thing's about as likely to slide under a cuff as I am to slide into home in the World Series this week. With the Ringlock, the Deepsea Challenge is a watch that can be feasibly worn by divers more serious than me (or, at least someone who's got more serious wrists). In fact, in the patent, Rolex says that this is the exact problem they were trying to solve, writing in the patent application, "the problem which occurs when making a sealed wrist watch case which is resistant down to very great depths, typically of between 3,000 and 5,000 meters, is, in particular, its thickness." Yeah, the Deepsea Challenge is a thick hunk of titanium, but without the Ringlock, it'd be an even thicker hunk of titanium. Since the Ringlock takes the brunt of the pressure instead, the case itself can be thinner than it otherwise would be. This is designed to reduce stress on the case by diverting the pressure on the watch's crystal to this strong inner ring (since the crystal has such a large surface area, a lot of force is exerted on it as a watch goes deeper underwater). “In this regard, The Big Salad is perfectly positioned.Basically, the Ringlock is a stainless steel inner ring within the case on which the crystal is mounted on one side, and a titanium caseback on the other. “The trend in the restaurant industry is clearly toward offering fresher, more healthful choices,” explains Bornoty. Having proved the concept with the original Grosse Pointe restaurant, Bornoty opened a second company-owned restaurant in Troy, Michigan in 2010 and has been new opening locations at a manageable rate ever since. In addition, The Big Salad offers over 16 varieties of delicious soups and five healthy and unique sandwiches. For those customers wishing to ‘build their own’ salad, The Big Salad offers over 28 vegetable topping choices, over 30 dressings, over eight meat and seafood topping choices and over eight dry topping choices. The Big Salad offers eleven signature entree salads that are all made to order. “The Big Salad was born with an understanding that we have no interest in serving average food quickly, but rather by providing the freshest product possible, with great customer service, in an enjoyable, comfortable and impeccably clean atmosphere,” explains Bornoty. As often as I am able, I want to say hello to each customer, to make sure that they love the food and are enjoying the experience.” Customers want to feel welcomed and relaxed. “If you don’t like people, don’t get into the restaurant business! Delicious, fresh food is only one element to an enjoyable dining experience. I’ve always enjoyed meeting and working with people,” he adds. “But I also discovered that I was meant to do this. “Of course I was pleased that The Big Salad concept was a success,” says Bornoty. It became an instant oasis for diners seeking fresh food at fast food prices. And the salad ingredients are not handled by the masses, but by one associate who is dedicated to making you the best salad possible.Īnd to finish off the concept, Bornoty wanted to create an environment that did not say “fast food” but “good food.” This meant real granite counters, real wood accents and real wooden chairs, not plastic.īornoty opened the first The Big Salad in 2008 in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, an upscale suburb of Detroit. A salad restaurant where the number of fresh toppings seems limitless and where the lettuce is continuously kept crisp and cold. Original “Big Salad” in Grosse Pointe Woods, MIīornoty had an idea: to create a specialty salad restaurant, where salads are made for you, not by you, but to your exact specifications. Then the next time you do a push or pull you will only be prompted for password and this will automatically be saved for future use. Once enabled as long as you specify the username either in the repository url ( hggit doesn’t support this) or in the settings files: In order to save the credentials the recommended approach is to enable the mercurial_keyring extension to securely store the password (see Settings file / enabling extensions on how to do this). HTTP/S auth will work straight away prompting you for username or password every time you do a push or pull. The two most popular ones are bitbucket and github and both offer free plans, bitbucket is great because it supports Hg as well as Git but github only supports Git so you’ll need to use the hggit extension, see using tortoisehg with git for details. This is because an online service provides better backup protection in case something happens to your machine and makes it easier to share your repository with others since you’re not having to maintain your own server. While you can create a repository on you local machine by File > New Repository and even serve it up over HTTP by Repository > Web Server, it is recommended to use an online source hosting servce. Also to learn the Hg commands for all these steps you can open View > Show Console and see what was run when you performed the step in the GUI, you can also just enter Hg commands here if that’s faster. While a number of things can be done via context menus in file explorer, this guide will be focused on doing everything inside TortoiseHg Workbench. You also have the option of push/pull from a different repository as well. When you’re ready you can push one or more commits to a central repository other developers also work with, or pull new commits from the central repository to your local repository. For those new to Hg from a SVN background basically in Hg the entire repository is located in your working folder so commit and update happens in your own copy of the repository. This guide mostly contains things you’ll probably pick up after just a few days working with TortoiseHg, but it also contains tips I didn’t learn until much later. Here is a guide on how to use TortoiseHg.
The Shadow Leviathan was annoying, but again, you can tank 3 hits in the sea truck before you need to repair, so you can kill that one too by raming into it and repairing when below 50% (my first encounter with one ended like this. The Ice worm was just annoying, and I don't know if that is because it is still being properly implemented, but all it ever did was make me get off the Snow Fox, which created 4 seconds of me getting back on it and then just travelling on without real danger. And I am still indimidated by the reapers even now. This is meant to the Below Zero's reaper. My second encounter with a Chelicerate ended with me killing it like this. OR you can do what I did and just ram into it until I got below 50%, then get out and repair until I heard it come back to attack again. After each attack it swims away pretty far giving you time to get out of the truck to repair yourself. The Chelicerate do very little damage to even the Sea truck, and you can stand to tank 4 grabs from it before it breaks your truck. When I played this game, however, I find that the Leviathans don't bother me at all. So, I knew already from the first game that the Leviathans were hit-or-miss at best. I wasn't intimidated by the Ghost or the Sea Dragon leviathans at all, but part of that was access to the Cyclops and the Prawn. That made exploring unnerving where they could be found. They had a decent roaming range, could quickly find you in their patroll area, and could quickly get to you. What I am trying to get to is this: I didn't feel comfortable exploring in the first Subnautica because Reapers were present. I only recently played the original Subnautica and I got hooked. I don't play horror games, or psychological horror games, generally. I've played the game now as far as it allows (not got all the achievements, yet), and while I really like the game for what it is I must say that the Leviathans have been a let-down. TL DR: What is missing from this game that made the Leviathans in the first game as scary, or unnerving or terrorising?` The Mystery Box is at a random location from the start of the game. The Pack-A-Punch can be seen at the beginning of the level at Area 51/Groom Lake. They will change back and forth each time you teleport back to Area 51. You'll notice a Jugger-Nog or Speed Cola machine at the start of the match. The gas they shoot off will not harm you if you are wearing your P.E.S. Do not get close to them or they will hold on to you, attack you, steal your first Perk. This makes it much difficult to keep your distance when they blow up. Astronaut Zombies can be found on the base with names over their heads. Instead, they will appear after you open the door to Double Tap Rootbeer Some Creepy Crawlers have the ability to teleport across the room like a bullet. This time, you do not need to turn on the power for them to come. They have a lot more health than the average starter zombie, so don't hold back. Once you kill them, they will blow up and blast you back with a shock wave. If they do grab hold of you, you can still attack them. They usually send you somewhere near the start of the moon base. Do not get close to them or they will hold on to you, attack you, steal your first Perk, and teleport you. Astronaut Zombies can be found on the base with names over their heads. You may notice a new enemy right off the bat. If you hit the floor without Jugger-Nog or PhD Flopper, you can get injured or downed just by falling from up high. The ones in the dome will launch you to other yellow pads. There are yellow square shaped pads that will launch you in the air if you stand on them. You can also hack various other things around the map such as the Mystery Box, Doors, Barriers, and the gate around the Pack-A-Punch machine.Īnother quick notable feature can be found around the base, most common in the dome. You must either teleport back to Area 51 and back to the moon base, get caught by Astronaut Zombies, or use a Gersch Device and enter the black hole. This prevents you from going outside of the Moon Base. When you pick it up, you will leave your helmet behind. Enemies Zombies, Napalm Zombies, Denizens, Avogadro ' Continue the fight against the undead and search for clues to the truth of what lies ahead. If you get close to the Excavator, you will be downed in two quick hits with Jugger-Nog. The Excavators are giant machines that saw into the base. After you turn on the power, three Excavators will try to breech the base. If it takes awhile to jump, there is no air or gravity.Īlong with these enemies is a new challenge. Find the power room to restore gravity and air to select areas of the moon base. Like usual, the power is off once you reach the base. You can take off the helmet when you restore the power to certain areas of the base. While on the moon, you must put on a special suit and helmet, or you will die. Lone Echo II could have been forgiven for its leisurely pace if it had a great story and characters to lean into, but those aspects feel only so-so. There’s rarely any consequence for dying, the puzzles are never challenging enough to give you a “eureka!” moment, and the game’s single enemy feels more like a nuisance than a threat.įor the most part you’re leisurely going about your business in space, which can admittedly be fun thanks to a strong sense of immersion, but we already got a good dose of that in the first Lone Echo the sequel was the prime opportunity to evolve that gameplay into something more, not just more of the same. While many games teach players new skills and then puts those skills to the test through challenging situations, Lone Echo II just never asks that much of you, and subsequently doesn’t ever manage to raise the level of tension. The game returns quickly to the gameplay established by its predecessor-which involves running around causally completing various objectives-and manages to deliver a similar (and sometimes magical) feeling of actually floating in and around a space station orbiting Saturn.Īnd that brings me to a bit of a gripe with Lone Echo II: there isn’t much of a gameplay arc. Had there been more intrigue in the plot or growth of the characters, this might have been just fine, but in the absence of those things it can be a bit tiresome. While it’s nice that we get to meet some new characters this time around, this leads to extended dialogue sequences where you’re just kind of sitting around listening to people have slow conversations. Lone Echo II is a very slowly paced game, sometimes to a fault. While on its surface one might think to classify the game as an action-adventure or adventure-puzzler, it’s actually closer to an adventure-exploration game, as it never manages to deliver much tension, action, nor puzzle intrigue. Now that that’s clear… Lone Echo II returns players to familiar gameplay and game structure. If you have any interest in playing Lone Echo II, you should really play Lone Echo first. Let’s get this out of the way right up front: Lone Echo II picks up almost immediately after the original game, and has a plot that’s heavily reliant on prior knowledge. Was it worth the wait? Read on to find out. Lone Echo is VR with a soul. After a nearly two-year delay, Lone Echo II is finally here to bring us full circle on Jack & Liv’s story. Does he remain steadfastly adherent to protocol, save for in the most dire of circumstances, or does Liv's habit of risky improvisation rub off on him? Does he understand humor? Would he adhere to his stated purpose forever, or would he - if the moment was right - define a better one? It's entirely up to you. Another incredible aspect of Lone Echo is how you can shape Jack through your dialogue choices. This is on level with the Witcher 3 in terms of emotional investment and realistic dialogue. The human connection you form together - YOU form together, not the characters form with each other - is almost unmatched by any other relationship in gaming.
